    Description

    Foundation and Nonprofit Grants Specialist

    About Us:

The Sustainable Media Center (SMC) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to create a media landscape that empowers young people. We aim to provide a new generation of media consumers and creators with meaningful agency over their increasingly media-centric lives. With a diverse board of over 85 leaders in media, technology, and academia, SMC is committed to positive change in how media impacts emotional and mental well-being.

    Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate Foundation and Nonprofit Grants Specialist to help secure funding that will drive SMC’s mission forward. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to an important cause while developing valuable skills in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising. The position will begin as a part-time, volunteer role, but we expect responsibilities to grow, and the role to develop into a paid position.

    Key Responsibilities:

Research and identify foundation and nonprofit funding opportunities that align with SMC’s mission.

Draft, edit, and submit persuasive grant applications and proposals.

Work closely with SMC leadership to tailor proposals to each funder's specific goals and priorities.

Maintain an organized calendar to ensure deadlines are met and follow-ups are timely.

Track the progress of submitted grants and manage communications with funders.

Build and maintain relationships with potential funders to support ongoing opportunities.

    Qualifications:

Proven experience in grant writing or nonprofit development, with a strong understanding of the grant process.

Excellent research and writing skills, able to craft compelling proposals that clearly convey our mission.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

A self-starter who is comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

Familiarity with the media or technology sectors is a plus but not required.

    Compensation:

Gig - 4 weeks. $1.5k a week. Could be extended.

If you're passionate about supporting a cause that helps young people and the future of media, please submit your resume, cover letter, and a sample grant proposal or writing sample here.
