Join Great River Greening at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park for a special volunteer opportunity! Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is renowned for its for its “Big Woods” woodlands and is the only site in the state of MN where the federally-endangered Dwarf Trout Lily can be found. Volunteers will remove Garlic Mustard in an ongoing effort to support the critical habitat needed for the rare Lily to survive.
Volunteers will hike 1/3 mile into our work area via a flat gravel road. Park restrooms are available on site, with modern facilities at the main entrance and a vault toilet where we will be parking at the walk-in campground area.
This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we will provide the tools and training required.
Please bring your own reusable water bottle and any additional snacks or lunch items you may need. in addition, bring your work/gardening gloves if you have them, if not they will be provided.
The event will take place rain or shine, so please dress accordingly for the weather with layers of clothing and wear closed-toe shoes.
