As part of our commitment to racial justice, we work tirelessly to combat systemic racism and advocate for policies that ensure equal opportunities for all.

    Position Overview:

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Track Legislation: Monitor local, state, and national legislation that impacts racial justice, including but not limited to policies related to healthcare, criminal justice, voting rights, and education.
    • Policy Analysis: Review and analyze the implications of proposed legislation on communities of color, particularly women of color.
    • Advocacy Campaigns: Organize and execute advocacy efforts, such as letter-writing campaigns, petitions, and rallies, to influence policymakers on critical racial justice issues.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with the Austin NOW board, other volunteers, and partner organizations to ensure a unified approach to policy advocacy.
    • Communication: Draft clear and persuasive messaging for emails, social media, and other communication channels to engage the community in advocacy efforts.
    • Research: Stay informed on racial justice issues and propose relevant policy positions and actions for the organization.

    Qualifications:

    • A strong commitment to racial justice and gender equity.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and national policies affecting communities of color.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with policy research, advocacy, or activism is a plus, but not required.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
    • Proficient in using Google Docs, email platforms, and social media.
