    Board Chair

    The Liberated Arts Movement is a collective of artists, educators and organizers dedicated to serving historically marginalized groups through creative, mindful and civically engaged programming. We are looking for qualified, passionate and resourceful board members to serve our mission, guard our vision and help us take our impact to the next level.

    Role Description

    Community is important to us; both internally and externally. We are looking for co-creators that are growing or established experts in the respective fields that will govern and protect the vision and mission of the Liberated Arts Movement as board members. This role is a 1 year volunteer position with potential for a two year

    renewal and will serve alongside other founding board members and the Executive Director, Tara Levy.

    Responsibilities

    As a Board Chair, you will be responsible for the management of the programs development and financial sustainability. The Liberated Arts Movement facilitates a variety of workshops, programs and services that benefit Chicago and beyond. Our 2025 programming goal is to have 10-12 community art and cultural programs and kickoff our in-school writing series, Liberated Writers.

    This role would be responsible for:

    • The strategic planning, vendor sourcing, stakeholder management and event execution of these programs
    • Sourcing and identifying potential partners, sponsors and funders
    • Raising funds for the organization to assist with program execution and expansion
    • Acting as an Ambassador and advocate for the Liberated Arts Movement mission
    • Meeting with the Executive Director once a month to ensure monthly and quarterly vision alignment and leading a full team meeting once a month to delegate and ensure execution of that vision
    • Expected to attend and lead at least 3-5 Liberated Arts Movement events for the year

    Qualifications

    • Must have at least a Bachelor's degree
    • At least 2 to 3 years of demonstrated leadership/team leadership experience
    • At least 1 year in a previous board member role or in a non profit leadership role
    • Strong understanding of marginalized communities and their needs
    • Prior experience in Education, Business Development, Creative Arts or Community Development is preferred.

    • Empathetic and Passionate about serving marginalized communities Demonstrated diplomacy and resourcefulness
    • Demonstrated passion for the Creative Arts, Community Development, Youth and/or Education
    • Great communication and public speaking ability
    • Community engagement oriented.
    • Highly organized, consistent and efficient
    • Great project management, time management and delegation ability Diplomatic, accountable, and resourceful
