About Special Olympics BC:
Special Olympics BC (SOBC) provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through sports, SOBC empowers athletes to showcase their abilities, build confidence, and experience the joy of participation and achievement.
Position Description:
Special Olympics BC - Burnaby is seeking two experienced and passionate curling volunteers to join our curling program for the upcoming season. Curling is a highly technical sport, and we are specifically looking for seasoned curlers who can bring their expertise to help our athletes develop their skills and enjoy the sport to the fullest.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with weekly curling sessions for athletes with intellectual disabilities
- Provide support and guidance to help athletes improve their curling technique
- Work closely with the current coaches and other volunteers to ensure a positive and - inclusive environment
- Help prepare athletes for potential competitions and support them during events
- Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among all participants
Qualifications:
- Must have prior curling experience; coaching experience is not necessary but is a plus
- Strong understanding of curling techniques, rules, and strategies
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with athletes of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Commitment to the mission and values of Special Olympics BC
Time Commitment:
- Saturdays from 1:45 PM to 4:00 PM, October to March
- Additional time may be required for competitions and events
Location:
- Delta Thistle Curling Club (DTCC), North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84th Avenue, Delta
