    Description

    Planetarium Operator

    Share your passion for all things astronomical by volunteering in the Davis Planetarium. Present astronomy programs in our Digital Planetarium, operate and monitor computer and projection equipment, and manage crowds and physical space.

    Duties:

    • Usher guests into the Planetarium
    • Introduce and present live planetarium shows to audiences
    • Engage guests in a variety of astronomical based topics
    • Operate Digital Planetarium

    Required Knowledge/Skills:

    • Public speaking, knowledge/interest in astronomy and night sky, comfortable learning digital planetarium software and technology, and a keen eye for detail are all necessary skills.
    • Comfort & familiarity operating a computer
    • Ability to speak to and deal with public in courteous and friendly manner
    • Outgoing; at ease with people of all ages
    • Prior knowledge of astronomy helpful, but willingness to learn is acceptable substitute

    Physical Requirements:

    • Comfortable working in low lighting
    • Ability to present a 30-minute live presentation while operating the digital planetarium software

    Training: Will be provided by Planetarium staff.

    Schedule: Shifts are available on Fridays (12-3:30pm), Saturdays (12-4:30pm), or Sundays (12-4:30pm). Volunteers must be able to commit to one shift per week.
