    Description

    Board Member

Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization (PLATO) nurtures young people’s curiosity, critical thinking, and desire to explore big questions, through philosophy and ethics programs for students, educators, and families. We are hoping to add a couple of board members with experience/skills in development/fundraising, marketing, finance/investment advising, nonprofit governance, and/or law, who are enthusiastic about PLATO's mission and interested in joining a collaborative and congenial nonprofit board. Board members provide leadership, set direction and policy, and share overall responsibility for strategic planning, governance, development, and financial management.

PLATO board members serve as organizational ambassadors who represent and champion PLATO’s vision, mission, and outcomes, as well as help to formulate, prioritize, and evaluate PLATO’s short- and long-term goals, provide financial oversight, and assist in supporting the organization's efforts to generate revenue in order to serve PLATO’s mission. The board is committed to enhancing the diversity of its membership as well as supporting PLATO’s ability to engage effectively with diverse communities. Board members consider PLATO a personal philanthropic priority and support it annually with a monetary contribution that is commensurate with the board member’s capacity and personally meaningful to them.

Board member terms are three years. The board meets quarterly online and once a year the organization brings board members together in person for a dinner and board meeting. Location varies.
