    Description

Help the vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries understand their rights and benefits!

If you are seeking a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the community and find new connections and friends while you volunteer, then I strongly encourage you to join the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) team here at Sourcewise, Santa Clara, California.

Sourcewise – Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) Santa Clara, California is looking for compassionate, dependable and committed candidates to become Volunteer HICAP Counselors.

The overall estimate of Medicare eligible seniors and disabled adults in Santa Clara County for fiscal year 2023-2024 is 281,433. As a HICAP Counselor, you will help provide free assistance and educate the vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries, analyze their insurance needs, compare policies, help file claims and appeals or help fill out applications for assistance. HICAP Counselors provide free in-person and over-the-phone counseling at our HICAP office or at a partner site, like a local senior or community center in Santa Clara County.

WE ARE IN NEED OF HICAP COUNSELORS WHO ARE BILINGUAL IN ENGLISH, SPANISH, MANDARIN, VIETNAMESE OR TAGALOG.

Retired Professionals are encouraged to apply!

Requirements: Commit to a minimum of 30 hrs. initial training followed by 10 internship hours. Commit to at least 40 hrs. of counseling annually.

Please note: Persons who hold a current license to sell insurance or who receive financial or other remuneration from any health insurer, including managed care plans (HMOs/PPOs), Part D plans or health care providers are ineligible.

Experienced HICAP Counselors could also become presenters at HICAP outreach events throughout the year. Volunteers receive no-cost extensive initial training through online self-pace courses, and a nine-day virtual course followed by one-on-one mentorship with an experienced HICAP Counselor. Those who complete initial training, pass the exam, and successfully complete mentorship, would then be registered with the California Department of Aging as HICAP Counselors.
