    Description

    Help us tell the story of the United States Navy’s enlisted Sailor! The National Museum of the American Sailor has a wide variety of positions available to volunteers. Volunteers at the National Museum of the American Sailor can assist staff by:

    • Greeting visitors
    • Guiding visitors through the museum
    • Teaching children about naval history

    Ideal candidates need not have served in the military, but the chief requirements are an interest in the Navy’s history and plenty of energy.

    How to Apply

    Volunteer Program Requirements

    Volunteer positions are open to all individuals with an interest and a commitment of service to the Museum who meet the qualifications without reference to race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and able to perform their prescribed duties. Volunteers work independently, with other volunteers, and with permanent Museum staff. Must also commit to either a morning or afternoon shift of 4 hours per month for a minimum of 3 months after completing initial onboarding training.

    Application and Training

    Applications are submitted to the Museum Technician. Applicants will be contacted for an interview by the Museum Technician. A comprehensive training program is designed to prepare participants to operate effectively in their role as a NMAS volunteer.
