    Description

    Volunteer - Post-Conviction Work

We are looking for high school and college volunteers to aid Youth for Innocence in its mission to help overturn wrongful convictions.

Through our volunteering, we give students first-hand experience with criminal law, aid lawyers in investigating the thousands of letters they receive from prisoners claiming innocence, and take the first step for prisoners to achieve their exoneration. In our initial training program, we teach student volunteers to evaluate cases, examine new evidence, and assist pro bono attorneys with RT notes and summaries of cases. Volunteers then apply this knowledge to real-life cases, gaining first-hand experience with legal work and the administration of justice, and earning community service hours, which can be validated if needed.

No previous experience is needed; our training course will teach you about the fundamentals of law and our work.

    Qualifications:

    • Enrolled in high school or college or equivalent (we are willing to make exceptions for extenuating circumstances)
    • Proficient in English writing

If you meet the above qualifications, you will almost certainly be accepted to work in our organization. If you want to get a head-start on the training, sign up for the course here.
