    Volunteer Opportunity: Interior Design for Museum Exhibit

    Are you passionate about interior design, art, and creating immersive experiences? The Before Slavery Museum is seeking a creative and detail-oriented volunteer to assist with designing the interior space for our upcoming exhibit in February. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an exciting cultural project while showcasing your design skills in a public setting.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with the curatorial and exhibition teams to design a cohesive, engaging interior space that enhances the overall exhibit experience.
    • Develop layout plans, spatial arrangements, and visual elements that complement the theme and content of the exhibit.
    • Select and recommend materials, furniture, lighting, and color schemes that support the exhibit's concept and atmosphere.
    • Ensure the design is functional, accessible, and in compliance with museum standards and safety regulations.
    • Assist with the installation and setup of the design elements.

    Qualifications:

    • A background in interior design, architecture, or a related field is preferred but not required.
    • Strong creative and conceptual thinking skills, with an eye for detail and spatial design.
    • Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar tools) is a plus.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with museum staff and external vendors.
    • A passion for museums, art, and creating meaningful experiences for visitors.

    Time Commitment:

    • Estimated 10-15 hours per week leading up to the exhibit opening.
    • Flexible hours, with the ability to work remotely on design concepts and in person for installations.
