    California 21 Providers Network Board of Directors Position

    Position Title: California 211 Providers Network Board Member (Volunteer Position)

    Reports To: California 211 Providers Network Board Chair

    Purpose:

    To serve as a voting member of the board, providing strategic direction, financial oversight, and governance to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and complies with legal and ethical standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Governance and Oversight:
      • Ensure the organization adheres to its mission and complies with federal, state, and local laws.
      • Provide strategic direction and financial oversight.
      • Hire, manage, support, and annually review the Executive Director.
    2. Fundraising:

    This is not a fundraising board and there are no annual giving requirements.

    1. Board Management:
      • Attend and actively participate in all board meetings.
      • Serve on at least one committee and take on special assignments as needed.
      • Assist in recruiting new board members and ensuring the board is diverse and inclusive.
    2. Advocacy and Representation:
      • Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and programs.
      • Build relationships with stakeholders, including donors, community members, and other organizations.
    3. Qualifications:
      • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
      • Ability to work collaboratively and engage in respectful debate.
      • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a requirement for this role.
      • Subject matter expertise in areas such as:
        • Finance
        • Contract/nonprofit/employment law
        • Fundraising
        • Advocacy/policy/legislation
        • Public Relations/Marketing
        • Government agencies
        • Health care
        • Human services
        • Disaster/emergency response
        • Data research and evaluation
        • Technology/AI
        • Strategic planning
        • Lived experience (e.g., immigrant, ESL, veteran, unhoused, low-income)
    4. Term and Time Commitment:
      • Board members serve a term of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal per the organization bylaws.
      • Expected to attend virtual bi-monthly board meetings and participate in committee work.
      • Attending less than 60% of Board meetings in a 12-month period may result in removal from the Board.
      • Expected to attend the annual in-person Board retreat.
      • Candidates are expected to either participate in annual DEI training provided by the organization or show proof of an equivalent training or certification received in the past 2 years.
      • New Board members will participate in a New Board Member Orientation
    5. Evaluation:
      • Board members' performance and contributions will be reviewed annually.
    6. Compensation:
      • This is a volunteer, unpaid position, certain expenses such as travel may be reimbursed as outlined by the organization’s Conflict of Interest Policy.
