    Description

A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and other creative mediums.

We are seeking candidates for a Volunteer Piano Tutor position to conduct one-on-one piano lessons with children at A Free Bird. An ideal candidate is a professional piano teacher, or a student or non-student with formal piano training, who is able to spend their time working with children and being patient with them. While not required, the individual should be aware of how to accommodate sick children and adjust scheduling accordingly. We welcome applicants in Redlands, California or neighboring areas, as this position will be performed in-person. The minimum tenure for this position is three months, with the option to extend.

Internship credit will be offered if required by an academic program.

    • Via Google form, fill out a weekly evaluation (indicating progress and goals) after each session.
    • Communicate with the guardian and child, what the child will be learning, and what steps will be taken to get the child to see results and continue their interest in AFB.

    Qualifications

    • At least 3-4 years of formal piano training (school, structured lessons, or equivalent experience)
    • Past experience of interacting and working with children, preferred but not required
    • Exhibits creative ideas and a welcoming personality
    • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
