    Are you familiar with Charter School finances? Are you curious about participatory budgeting? Do you want to support a school committed to social justice education and action?

    Southside Family Charter School is in need of a board member to act as Treasurer to help steward the school’s finances and ensure our sustainability and that resources are supporting our students and mission.

    Southside Family Charter School is a small, K-8 school that meets the needs of a culturally and ethnically diverse population by engaging children in critical thinking and problem solving, involving children in political and social activism, encouraging creative expression, offering a wide range of electives and advocating for children and families.

    What will be expected of the Board Treasurer at Southside? (from the formal job description):

    • Provide direction for the oversight of the School’s record keeping and accounting policies and procedures
    • Keep accurate accounts of all monies of the Corporation received or disbursed, and ensure the presentation of timely and meaningful financial reports to the Board
    • Ensure the development of the annual budget and its submission to the Board for its approval
    • Make recommendations for revisions to the current year’s budget when necessary, for submission to the Board for approval
    • Lead the board in assuring compliance with federal, state, and other financial reporting requirements
    • Perform such other duties and have such other powers as may from time to time be prescribed by the Board of Directors or by the Board Chair.

    How much time will the Board Treasurer need to allocate?

    • 10 - 15 hours/month
    • Regular board meetings are Tuesday nights starting at 6
    • Board meetings can run 1 - 2 hours
    • Meetings are in person (with some medical exceptions possible)
    • The Treasurer also chairs the Finance committee (meets 1x/month for 2 hours)
    • All board members commit to ongoing training as part of their board service

    What the ideal partner for this role will have:

    • Background knowledge in small non-profit finances (1 - 5 million $ budgets)
    • Ability to translate numbers and financial statements to the rest of the Board and the community - to help understand the meaning of the numbers for people with no or growing financial knowledge
    • Able to connect students, staff, and families dreams for Southside to financial forecasting and planning for the future
    • Helps craft process for getting input from the school community on how we allocate financial resources
    • Applies the lens of Southside’s mission to financial planning and recommendations
    • Commitment to serving - terms are two years and you can serve up to two consecutive terms
    • Capacity in time and energy to take on the responsibilities
    • Alignment with Southside’s mission, vision and values
    • High standards of personal integrity
    • Collaborative, aware of your own strengths and agency and committed to seeing that in others
    • Open to learning + growing in the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill your responsibilities
