    Description

    Board Overview: Global Seed Savers US Board of Directors provide vision and direction for the following but not limited to fundraising, strategic planning, governance, and supporting the Founder and CEO in leading the organization. We are a rapidly growing and maturing international development organization and work in close collaboration with our Philippines counterpart NGO Global Seed Savers Philippines Board of Directors to govern the organization and advocate for our mission and vision. We are in the early stages of forming a Joint Board with the Philippines entity and while we are separate legal entities, we operate as one governing body with Philippines Leadership to guide our Board structure.

    Board Member Desired Qualifications:

    • Food justice and food sovereignty advocate. International Development expertise focused on regenerative agriculture and seed saving and any experience in the Philippines a plus.
    • Philanthropic connections and/or expertise.
    • Non-Profit/International Development Legal Expertise or applicable experience.
    • A passion for fundraising and a well networked person with high-value donor connections is a plus.
    • Previous Board Experience with focus on Board Governance and Finance Committee expertise highly desired.
    • Availability to participate in events, annual campaigns, and activities of the organization.
    • Virtual presence at quarterly Board Meetings and Committee work in off months Required.
    • A positive attitude and a desire to have FUN while creating change. Our board members are key advocates for the work we do, helping us to inspire hope and progress throughout the Philippines.
    • Serving on the Global Seed Savers US Board of Directors is in your top two non-profit commitments.

    Leadership:

    • Support and evaluate the organization’s Founder and CEO. The Board ensures the CEO has the moral and professional support they need to further the organization’s goals.
    • Protect assets and provide proper financial oversight. The board assists in developing and approving the annual budget and ensuring proper financial controls are in place.
    • Assist CEO and other board members in identifying and recruiting additional board members;
    • All board members serve on at least one committee. All Board Offices chair a committee as necessary.
    • Work in close collaboration with the Philippines Board Leadership to govern and guide the organization.

    Stewardship:

    • Play a key role in networking and partnership building for Global Seed Savers. Primary responsibilities include fundraising, resource generation, elevating the profile of our work.
    • Enhance the organization’s public standing. The board should clearly articulate the organization’s mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public and garner support from the community.
    • Utilize contacts to increase Global Seed Savers audience, to include increasing access to major donors ($1,000 and up) and high-profile personalities that could benefit Global Seed Savers visibility. Such as: corporate/business partners, members of the media, academic communities, and/or other nonprofit and government leaders.

    Requirements: Each Board Member serves a two-year term with the potential to extend for up to three consecutive terms. All board members are required to make a personal financial contribution to the organization significant to them. In addition, each board member has the following Give or Get requirement:

    • Give: Contribute $1,500 in direct contributions per year or Get: Work with prospects to secure a minimum of $1,500 in fundraising support per year
