    Description

    Volunteer Sexual Assault Counselor

Our Volunteer Sexual Assault Counselors (SACs) are a lifeline for those who are in need of support in San Mateo County. Join Rape Trauma Services as we support people impacted by sexual violence.

All of our volunteer Sexual Assault Counselors (SACs) complete a California State Certified Sexual Assault Counselor Training, designed to provide future volunteer counselors with knowledge, skills, and self-awareness necessary to respond to people affected by sexualized trauma. Specific topics covered in the training include the myths and realities of sexual abuse/assault, effects of trauma, medical issues, legal options, crisis intervention, and counseling skills. Throughout the training, we explore the connection between individual acts of sexual abuse/assault and institutional oppression such as sexism, racism, and homophobia.

    Requirements include:

    • Must be 18+
    • Must live 30-40 minutes from San Mateo and have access to reliable transportation
    • Must desire to lean more about the movement to end sexual violence

Bilingual people, particularly Spanish speakers, are high encouraged to apply!

Our next training cohort will be held from July 12 through August 23. Training schedule includes virtual trainings from 6-9pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays and in-person trainings at our Burlingame office on Saturdays from 9a-3:30p, totaling 80 hours.
