    Description

    STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

    Location: Remote

    Time commitment: 2 meetings per week, 30 minutes (days and times TBD by group); 1-2 hours per week planning and execution.

    Description: The person in charge of planning the Engineering Hackathon is responsible for arranging and running a creative and captivating event. This position requires creating the event theme, working with industry experts, handling logistics, and guaranteeing a smooth experience for attendees. The perfect candidate should possess a solid engineering and event planning background, along with a strong commitment to promoting creativity and innovation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Create the focus and technical obstacles for the hackathon, highlighting state-of-the-art technology and innovative problem-solving.

    • Work with experts in the field and engineers to offer guidance and evaluate the competition, guaranteeing a varied and informed judging panel.

    • Organize the event agenda by including workshops, keynote speeches, and interactive hackathon activities to enhance the overall participant experience.

    • Handle registering participants, organizing teams, and coordinating project submissions to ensure a seamless process from beginning to end.

    • Assist participants in their projects by coordinating the provision of resources such as software, hardware, and virtual collaboration tools.

    • Advertise the hackathon through multiple marketing channels to draw in a mix of participants and sponsors.

    • Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and partners to obtain required assistance and supplies for the event.

    • Make sure that all event activities adhere to safety and security regulations.

    • Examine feedback and performance data after the event to pinpoint areas for enhancement and improve future hackathons.

    Requirements:

    • Experience in organizing events, managing projects, or a similar field.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

    • Deep knowledge of engineering fundamentals and new technologies.

    • Creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box and develop innovative strategies.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

    • Passion for STEM education and commitment to promoting STEM literacy and application.

    • Cultural sensitivity and ability to engage with a diverse global audience.
