    Help Adults Learn English (Virtually)

    Join us as we work together to help make a lasting mark in people’s lives. We welcome both experienced and novice instructors. If you have not taught adults, we will help you gain the skills to be an effective instructor. We provide curriculum, training, and support.

    Qualifications: Aspire staff will provide the lesson plans and materials. Other qualifications are as follows.

    • Must be fluent in English and easy to understand
    • Ability to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours each week to teaching, class preparation, and occasional training or peer support sessions
    • Patience, understanding, and a positive attitude
    • Strong desire to relate to students and assist them in improving their English language skills
    • Must be able to pass a background check
    • Optional: Teaching or ESL teaching experience and TESOL certification.

    Instructions:

    Aspire staff will provide the lesson plans and materials. Classes are taught online Tuesdays and Thursdays from 06:30 P.M. - 08:30 P.M. (CST) via Teams. No need to commit to both days. We do ask for a total of three hours once a week to include prep time. See Volunteer Process below:

    3. Observe recorded sessions to help you understand how and what you'll be teaching: https://tinyurl.com/mvu5ecv6
    4. Discuss your classroom observations with the Volunteer Director and select program level(s) you are most comfortable teaching.
    5. The Volunteer Director will email you instructions to complete the volunteer background check and sign the media release form.
    6. Attend specialized training for the adult literacy program you have selected that will be conducted by the Program Director of your chosen program. Technical assistance is provided by the Volunteer Director.
