    Description:

    South Bronx United Inc. (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Its mission is to prepare youth to succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,700 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, including academic enrichment and tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, immigration legal services, and other individual and family support.

    South Bronx United is seeking volunteers to serve at the organization’s 14th Annual Benefit on the evening of Thursday, November 14th at the Prince George Ballroom (15 E 27th St, New York, NY 10016) from 6:30-10 pm. The event is a cocktail-style fundraising event that makes it possible for SBU to sustain and grow its programs. The event includes food and drink, a silent auction, a raffle, and a short program.

    Time Commitment: 5:30- 10:30 pm

    Volunteer bartenders will arrive at the event from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm to assist in bar prep prior to the event starting at 6:30. Volunteers are expected to stay during the entire event and are invited to help set up/clean up. Set up will be from 12:00 pm- 6:00 pm, while clean-up will be 10:30 pm- 11:30 pm.

    Volunteer servers will arrive at the event at 5:00 pm for training. They will help plate and carry trays of passed hors d'oeuvres to guests.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Volunteers will assist in various tasks such as:

    • Serving Drinks: Mixing and serving cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages to guests according to the event’s menu or guidelines.
    • Managing the Bar Area
    • Monitoring Drink Levels

    Volunteers will interact directly with our guests, donors and special guests. They are expected to be personable, friendly and helpful throughout the event. Past experience working an event is preferred.

    Training:

    Volunteers will attend a brief virtual training prior to the event to learn more about South Bronx United and their role in the event.
