    This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about financial empowerment and who has a track record of leadership in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.

    Position Description

    The Board supports the work of Arkansas Asset Builders and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. In addition to providing oversight, board members directly support the mission of Arkansas Asset Builders by raising awareness and financial support for the organization. While day-to-day operations are led by our Executive Director, the Board-ED relationship is a partnership and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

    Specific Board Member responsibilities and expectations include:

    • Serving as a trusted advisor to the ED as s/he develops and implements Arkansas Asset Builders’s strategic plan
    • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Arkansas Asset Builders for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics
    • Approving Arkansas Asset Builders’s annual budget, financial reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the ED
    • Assisting the ED and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
    • Serving on 1-2 committees or task forces and taking on special assignments as needed
    • Representing Arkansas Asset Builders to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
    • Ensuring Arkansas Asset Builders’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities Arkansas Asset Builders serves
    • Assisting in the planning and execution of major fundraiser events, soliciting business sponsorships, and developing donor relationships
    • Communicating regularly with the ED and the board chair with updates on fundraising, outreach, and other assigned tasks; reviewing agenda and materials prior to meetings

    Qualifications

    Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

    • Commitment to and understanding of the communities that Arkansas Asset Builders serves, preferably based on experience.
    • Natural affinity for cultivating relationships and building consensus among diverse individuals
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of hardworking Arkansans

    Board term and time commitment

    Arkansas Asset Builders’s board members will serve a two-year term, eligible for re-appointment for additional terms. Board members will be expected to attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events as able.

    Board meetings will be held quarterly in Conway at 6:30pm on the second Thursday of the month in August, November, February, and May. Meetings typically last 90 minutes. Virtual attendance options are also available.

    Committee meetings are generally held virtually 2-3 times per quarter, pending their respective work agenda. Committee meetings typically last less than 60 minutes. The board also schedules an annual half-day retreat on a Saturday in late August/early September TBD.
