    Description

    Fraud Fighter

    Purpose of Position: AARP Fraud Fighter Volunteers support AARP Michigan State Office staff and volunteers by educating community members on how to identify and avoid scams and fraud.

    Responsibilities of Position:

    • Deliver presentations to community groups, clubs, and professional organizations on common scams and fraud prevention.
    • Educate individuals on how to protect themselves from identity theft and financial scams.
    • Share fraud prevention tips and resources provided by AARP Michigan.
    • Engage with the community through public speaking engagements to raise awareness about fraud and scams targeting older adults.

    Qualifications:

    • Commitment to the goals and priorities of AARP.
    • Membership in AARP preferred.
    • Strong communication and public speaking skills.
    • Ability to work well with diverse populations, backgrounds, and experiences.
    • Effective interpersonal skills to build relationships with community members and organizations.
    • Comfortable with using digital tools and technology to support presentations and communications.
    • Experience in education, training, or public speaking preferred but not mandatory.

    Time Required: Approximately 1-2 hours a week.

    Training Required: AARP will provide an orientation to the volunteer specific to those areas the volunteer will be providing support for. Additional skills training, issue briefings, and coaching will be available as necessary.

    Travel Required: Limited travel may be requested for in-person presentations and events.

    Expenses: Qualified expenses related to performing in this role will be reimbursed.

    Scope of Authority: The Fraud Fighter Volunteer does not directly supervise any volunteers.
