    Description

    Cultural Exchange

The Cultural Exchange program provides a holistic experience to understand the authentic lifestyle of Nepali people, offering unique opportunities to stay with and live like locals. Whether in urban modern cities or typical rural villages, each program is distinctive, allowing volunteers to immerse themselves deeply in Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food, and community.

Nepali people are known for their kindness, humility, and warmth. This transformative opportunity has the potential to positively change your life forever.

The Cultural Exchange program runs year-round, with durations ranging from 1 to 20 weeks. VCD Nepal boasts an extensive network of 100+ host families throughout Nepal.

    Safety and Support:

Your well-being is our top priority. At VCD Nepal, we value the safety of our volunteers above all else. Our local coordinator and VCD staff are dedicated to looking after you and ensuring that you stay safe, comfortable, and healthy throughout your time in Nepal. From the moment you arrive at the airport, our coordinator will be available to assist you with anything you may need. We provide a detailed orientation process as soon as you arrive in the country, ensuring that you are well-prepared for your volunteer experience.

    Requirements:

    • No specific requirements, but participants should be 18 years or older; minors must be under parental supervision
    • Criminal background check certificate required
    • Travel insurance for safety
    • Vaccinations (highly recommended)

    Accommodation & Meals:

Accommodation is arranged with local families in villages or cities, providing a private room with basic furniture. Meals, served three times a day, typically consist of Dal Bhat Tarkari (Rice, Lentils, and vegetables), a foundation of Nepali cuisine.

While most families in urban areas offer Wi-Fi, western toilets, and hot showers, village homestays may have limited access to these facilities. However, the unique experience compensates for any limitations.

Water options include purchasing bottled water or asking host families for filtered or boiled water.

    Typical Day:

    • Wake up around 7 am
    • Morning tea served at 7:30 am
    • Main meal ready by 9:30 am
    • Afternoon tea and light snacks around 3 pm
    • Dinner served about 7 pm

Given the nature of cultural exchange, there's no rush, allowing volunteers to take it easy and savor the experience. Festivals and local events often provide exciting opportunities for exploration, and engaging in daily household and agricultural tasks is encouraged for a deeper cultural immersion.

    Free Time Activities:

Nepal offers breathtaking adventure activities year-round, including trekking, hiking, paragliding, white water rafting, bungee jumping, jungle safaris, and more. VCD Nepal also offers combined packages with tourist activities, allowing for a tailor-made itinerary.
