    Location: Remote (Northern Virginia area preferred)

    Reports To: Executive Director

    Time Commitment: 10-20 hours / week, 1 year commitment

Mental health has a harmful stigma prevalent in many communities around the world, especially among the refugee population. After being forced out of their original communities, it becomes harder for refugee students to function in both school and life settings without healing from the trauma they encounter before, during, and after their transition to the United States of America. We want to help them succeed in American life and make their adjustment to cultural changes easier through school programs and community engagement.

    Position Overview:

    The Director of Development and Fundraising will be responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial support for the organization’s mission and programs. This role will oversee donor relations, manage fundraising campaigns, and engage key stakeholders, including individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to ensure financial goals are met and to foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote fundraising initiatives.
    • Create compelling fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and social media content.
    • Analyze fundraising data to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and identify areas for improvement.
    • Provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Board on fundraising performance and progress towards goals.
    • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legal and ethical standards, including IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations.
    • Work closely with other departments, such as marketing, communications, and programs, to align fundraising efforts with overall organizational goals.
    • Explore and implement new and innovative fundraising techniques and technologies to enhance donor engagement and revenue.
    • Train, and manage volunteers to assist with fundraising activities.
    • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Develop and execute Safe Haven Space’s annual fundraising plan.
    • Oversee the coordination and execution of special events.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors.
    • Create and execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, or related fields preferred.
    • Experience in nonprofit development and fundraising, including proven success in securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive proposals and reports and speak effectively to individuals and groups.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage donors, staff, and volunteers effectively.
    • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
    • Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and its philanthropic landscape.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and be a strategic thinker who can take initiative.
    • Cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a commitment to SHS’s mission of supporting refugee youth.
