    2025 French Conversation Circle March Break Camp Volunteer - Angus Glen CC

    About York Region Educational Services and this Opportunity:

    York Region Educational Services (YRES) is a not-for-profit organization that provides individuals in the vicinity of York Region with free and affordable educational resources in a safe and supportive environment that inspires, motivates, and helps set the foundation for personal growth. Partnering with Markham Public Library, we are thrilled to host French Conversation Circle, a summer camp program for children in Grade 1-4 at Angus Glen Library, and we are seeking volunteers that are interested in supporting this program.

    Key responsibilities are as follows:

    • Assist camp counsellors in leading small-group activities and team-building exercises, when instructed
    • Ensure campers are safe, supervised, and abiding by camp rules at all times
    • Communicate with campers, parents (occasionally), and other staff members
    • Attend meetings and training sessions as required in March
    • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the campsite
    • Help manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise

    Time commitment:

    • Camp runs from March 10 - March 14 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
    • There are three shift options: mornings (9am to 12:30pm), afternoons (12:30pm to 4pm), and full day (9am to 4pm)
    • Your commitment must be by the week (Monday to Friday)

    There will be virtual training sessions in Febuary and in-person training sessions on Saturdays at Aaniin Community Centre in March. More details to be followed in March.

    Camp location: Angus Glen Library (3990 Major Mackenzie Dr E, Markham, ON L6C 1P8)

    A great candidate for this position will possess the following:

    • Must be 15+ years of age
    • At least 3 months of experience working with children, preferred
    • Can hold a conversation in French and basic proficiency in reading and writing in French, preferred
    • Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills
    • Collaboration skills
    • Self-management skills and the ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct - YOU are the role model
    • Enthusiasm and passion towards working with children

    How to Apply

    Volunteers must be of age 14 or above, must be willing to attend Saturday trainings in June, own a laptop with internet access and camera, and acquire a VSC from the regional police upon request (further instructions will be provided during training).
