    A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and other creative mediums.

    Job Summary:

    A 3D Designer/Fabricator for Multimedia at A Free Bird is entrusted with the creation of immersive and visually stunning multimedia experiences by designing and fabricating three dimensional elements, aligning with the artistic and creative goals of A Free Bird, targeting websites and digital imaging and animations. The objective is to bring creative visions to life in a dynamic and impactful manner. This pivotal role involves translating creative concepts into tangible assets using a diverse set of tools and technologies. Collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams, the 3D Designer/Fabricator ensures the integration of 3D elements into multimedia projects, delivering innovative and engaging visual content across various platforms.3D modeling, fabricating techniques, and a comprehensive understanding of multimedia production processes. This multifaceted position requires a deep understanding of the intricacies of multimedia design and production.

    Qualifications:

    Education or graduate bachelors in graphic design degree, digital design degree, film degree, or a related field.

    At least 2 years' experience in a similar role.

    • A complete portfolio of multimedia design content showcasing your skills and experience.
    • Working knowledge of software design programs such as InVision, Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketch.
    • Ability to collaborate on long-term projects.
    • Excellent knowledge of storyboarding, visual design principles, and animation.
    • Artistic with a keen eye for aesthetics and visually appealing content.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Basic knowledge of web publishing software.
    • Experience with inkjet or UV printers & cutters, plotters
    • Familiar with 3D printers & laser cutters
    • Interest in emerging technologies

    Responsibilities:

    • Design, develop, and create innovative animations and complex 3D objects for training programs using Autodesk 3D Max.
    • Review all training content and offer insights to Instructional Designers.
    • Support design meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Instructional Designers.
    • Collaborate with fellow designers to ensure a seamless and consistent user experience.
    • Utilize a range of tools including Autodesk 3D Max, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Substance Painter, Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder), InVision, and Sketch.
    • Apply a robust knowledge of concepts and tools encompassing 3D animation, motion graphics, graphic design, and video/audio editing/production.
    • Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
    • Pay meticulous attention to detail and exhibit solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Work autonomously and collaboratively within team environments.
    • Possess basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Showcase excellent knowledge of storyboarding, visual design principles, and animation.
    • Demonstrate an artistic eye for aesthetics and the creation of visually appealing content.
    • Be acquainted with inkjet and/or UV printers, cutters, plotters, as well as 3D printers and laser cutters.
    • Conduct meetings with stakeholders to define project scope.
    • Provide comprehensive support for daily operations, including research, experimentation, equipment maintenance and procurement, event coordination, and overall assistance.
    • Adhere strictly to project deadlines and operate effectively within tight timelines.

    Additional Information

    This position requires a three month commitment and at least 5 - 10 hours per week.*

    *Mandatory commitment is based on position level.
