    Please Don't Die Black Men (PDDBM) is a Vancouver, WA-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing equity, empowerment, and opportunity within African American/Black communities. With a focus on uplifting children of color and addressing systemic inequities, PDDBM provides transformative programs and events, including fashion design, journalism, filmmaking, scholarships, and cultural celebrations such as Kwanzaa and Black History Month events. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and equip individuals with the tools they need to thrive in a world of limitless possibilities.

    Role Overview

    PDDBM is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join its Board of Directors as volunteer Executive Board Members. This critical leadership role requires a commitment to guiding the organization’s strategic vision, ensuring operational excellence, and advocating for the mission of equity and empowerment. As a board member, you will work collaboratively with a diverse team of community leaders to create meaningful impact in the lives of Black and African American families in Clark County and beyond.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Strategic Leadership: Provide vision and strategic direction to PDDBM, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, goals, and values.
    • Governance & Oversight: Review and approve annual budgets, strategic plans, and organizational policies.
    • Fundraising & Advocacy: Support fundraising efforts through personal contributions, donor cultivation, and community outreach to secure financial sustainability.
    • Community Representation: Act as an ambassador for PDDBM, building relationships with community stakeholders and advocating for equitable access to resources and opportunities.
    • Program Support: Offer insights and expertise to enhance PDDBM’s educational, cultural, and community programs, including initiatives in STEAM education, fashion design, journalism, and filmmaking.
    • Event Participation: Actively participate in key events such as the Black History Month Fashion Show, Kwanzaa Celebration, and youth-focused programs.
    • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to organizational leadership and program participants when appropriate.

    Qualifications

    • Proven leadership experience, particularly in non-profit, educational, or community organizations.
    • Strong commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within underserved communities.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse perspectives.
    • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Passion for PDDBM’s mission to empower African American/Black communities and youth.
    • Familiarity with fundraising, program development, or community engagement.
    • Expertise in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math), education, social justice, or related fields is a plus.

    Time Commitment

    • Attend quarterly board meetings, which may include evening or weekend commitments.
    • Actively participate in at least one committee or initiative.
    • Engage in PDDBM events and fundraising efforts throughout the year.
