    Board Treasurer for Your Hearing Dog Inc

    Your Hearing Dog Inc's mission is to supply specially trained service dogs to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, as well as veterans with the same challenges. YHD is searching for a Board Treasurer. View our board member prospectus by clicking here.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    In accordance with organizational bylaws, the Treasurer is primarily responsible for overseeing Your Hearing Dog Inc’s finances. In addition to the board member-at large responsibilities (you’ll receive a copy of those as well), the Board Treasurer has the following responsibilities:

    • Oversees all revenues and expenses and creates financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement) and communicates this information to the Board on a quarterly basis.
    • Works with the Your Hearing Dog staff and board to create the Your Hearing Dog budget draft and seeks approval from the board on annual budget.
    • Ensures development and board review of sound fiscal policies and procedures.
    • Acts as an official signer on the Your Hearing Dog bank account and works with Executive Director on large monetary distributions.
    • Oversees any financial agreements.
    • Participates in revenue generation activities including cultivation and stewardship.
    • Serves as the chair of the finance committee where applicable.
    • In cooperation with the board officers, accepts responsibility for filing annual tax forms as required by the state or the IRS.
    • Provides a full financial report to the board of directors annually.

    This is a virtual opportunity but if you're local to the Colorado Springs / Pueblo, CO area it's a definite plus.

    As a board member you should be willing to assist us in raising awareness for our mission and help us connect with your network. This is important because of we to "build an army of the engaged" and connecting with your existing family and friends is a must.

    Board member positions at YHD are a two year commitment with the possibility of a second term.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.

    Financial Skills

    • Accounting knowledge: A strong understanding of accounting principles is essential. This includes familiarity with financial statements, budgeting, and bookkeeping.
    • Financial analysis: The ability to analyze financial data and interpret its meaning for the board is crucial. This involves identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
    • Budgeting: You will be involved in developing the annual budget and monitoring adherence to it.

    Personal Qualities

    • Integrity and ethics: Our treasurer is responsible for safeguarding the organization's financial assets. Honesty and a strong ethical compass are essential.
    • Attention to detail: Accuracy is paramount in financial matters. Our treasurer needs a keen eye for detail to ensure financial records are meticulous.
    • Communication skills: Our treasurer must be able to communicate complex financial information to the board and other stakeholders in a clear and concise way.
    • Time commitment: Being a board treasurer requires dedication. The time commitment involves attending regular board meetings, working on committees, and overseeing financial tasks.
    • Leadership: Our treasurer will play a leadership role in ensuring the organization's financial health.

    Additional Considerations

    • Experience: Experience in finance or accounting is a plus. Having served on another board's finance committee would be a definite plus.
    • Understanding of the organization: Familiarity with the YHD's mission and goals is necessary. Engaging with and raising donations through your network is crucial.
