    Description

Washington Urban Debate Seeking Debate Coaches (Afterschool)

    About US:

Washington Urban Debate League (WUDL) is a local non-profit that supports debate programs at public schools in D.C. and the surrounding areas. We know from extensive research that debate is one of the best things a student can do with their time, but it isn't often available to students in public schools and under-resourced communities. WUDL fills the gap, starting new debate programs, writing curriculum, hosting tournaments, sponsoring travel, and removing the barriers to entry for students across the region.

We've been named "One Of The Best" local non-profits for several years running, and we've also won Middle School Nationals six (!) years in a row, though we are definitely an education > competition organization.

We're looking to expand our team to serve more students and more schools across the metro area, and to have the resources necessary to continue our transformational mission in a sustainable way.

    Volunteer Coaches:

We are ramping up for the school year, and are recruiting debate coaches to assist a wide array of programs across the region, including Wards 1,2,4,5,6,7 and 8 in DC, Prince George's County (MD), and parts of Montgomery County (MD). We have a range of programs that could use your help, especially some new programs at the Middle and/or High School level.

Our model is a partnership between a teacher-coach and an external volunteer with some debate background (flexible), pairing complementary backgrounds and skill-sets and allowing for differentiated instruction. Our staff will work with you to find the right fit for you, including geography, timing, etc.

    Candidates would:

-Have some background in debate of some kind (doesn't have to be recent, or highly competitive!)

-Be able to participate in practices after school (3-5 PM window is a estimate).

-Be able to pass a background check at your assigned school
