  • Mission

Guided by our core values of imagination, inclusion, representation and joy, The Superhero Project (SHP) recognizes the tremendous gifts and unique abilities that each child brings to the world. We harness the power of the arts as a tool for healing and empower youth impacted by illnesses, disabilities, and complex mental health, developmental and medical needs. We interview kids and teens about who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they want to make a positive difference in the world. A global team of artists designs the superhero alter egos the children describe, creating a visual representation of their strength, courage and creativity. About Us

At the conclusion of our unique storytelling collaboration, young people and their families receive inspiring posters of their superheroes to treasure forever. Participants report increased self-confidence and resilience, feelings of connection, and hope. In addition to the positive benefits for individuals, SHP also creates powerful public exhibits of this artwork to celebrate these often marginalized youth within their communities and to challenge viewers' assumptions about individuals with disabilities. Participation is free and open to families around the world. Groups interested in having superheroes designed for the youth they support and an exhibit to display should contact SHP for details.
