Organisation For Community Development Uganda (OCDU) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) that was established in 2017. (OCDU) is fully registered as a CBO by Budaka District Local Government registration number: BDLG/CBS/011. Since its inception, OCDU’s goal has been to improve the standard of living of vulnerable people living in Budaka District and surrounding areas through supporting income generating activities, agriculture, skill development, youth education, health care access, and sensitization. (OCDU) is especially committed to empowering orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), women, and people from child-headed households, women headed households, people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and those with disabilities. The core strength of (OCDU) is its excellent understanding of the communities it serves and its practical approach to finding solutions to community problems. This strength is rooted in the fact that (OCDU) volunteer staffs are part of these same groups. Core staff members all live in Budaka District and are members of the same vulnerable groups (OCDU) targets. OCDU supports and initiates innovative projects with a mission to save and improve lives of those in need with a priority on youth, children and women. OCDU was founded to help provide formal education, agriculture, health promotion, clean drinking water, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, poverty alleviation, hygiene & sanitation and vocational skills training The needs identified at the origin of our structure encompassed a wide array of crucial challenges facing our community. These needs included a lack of proper educational facilities for children, which hinder their access to quality education. Additionally, there was a gap in skills training programs for out-of-school children, limiting their opportunities for personal development and future employment. The healthcare system in our community was also in dire need of improvement, as it currently falls short in providing adequate medical care and services. Traditional norms and customs had led to the suppression of women's rights, particularly their participation in office roles, highlighting the importance of addressing gender inequality. Furthermore, gender-based violence is a pervasive issue that requires immediate attention and intervention. Lastly, our community's environmental protection efforts are virtually nonexistent, emphasizing the need for action to address environmental concerns that threaten our collective well-being. These identified needs serve as a comprehensive foundation for our structure's mission to address these challenges and promote sustainable development within our community. Our organization's primary activities revolve around addressing critical community needs and fostering sustainable development. These activities include a focus on health initiatives, income-generating programs tailored to empower vulnerable women and youth, agriculture, educational empowerment endeavors, and skills training initiatives. Currently, we are actively engaged in several projects to achieve these goals. Our skills training project aims to equip individuals with practical skills that enhance their employability and self-sufficiency. The pads project seeks to provide menstrual hygiene support to girls and women, promoting their well-being and dignity. Our environment stewardship project underscores our commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Through these projects and activities, we aspire to make a positive impact on our community by addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term empowerment and growth.
