  • About Us

Friends of the Children - Portland is a unique early intervention program dedicated to helping Portland’s most at-risk children become productive, contributing members of their community. This is accomplished by employing full-time mentors who work one-on-one with children, beginning in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Mentors provide each child with a caring, nurturing and sustained relationship with an adult role model, teaching values, providing new experiences, and setting attainable expectations in order for each child to reach his or her unique potential. Every child is important, and every child has the potential to assume a very special place in the world.
