  • About Us

Wildwoods is a non-profit youth services organization that provides nature-based programs for Los Angeles schools and community organizations. With a focus on urban ecology and how our actions impact each other as much as the natural environment, our programs are a blend of natural science and social science, with a healthy dose of social-emotional learning. We were founded in 2000 as a response to the shooting at Columbine High School. We sought to expand the boundaries of traditional outdoor education and use ecology and the outdoor experience as a framework for human relations. Here are a few of our signature programs:

Full Circle is an eight-week program for elementary school classes. Full Circle combines team-building, outdoor exploration, visual arts, technology, and community service. The Full Circle curriculum was the 2012 recipient of the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for Environmental Education.

Wildwoods LIVE provides interactive, virtual field trips to destinations around Los Angeles County. Our field instructor streams high-definition video and audio back to the classroom and engages with students in real-time.

A Drop in the Bucket is our water education program that serves thousands of Los Angeles students each year. The program concludes with students building a working model of the California Aqueduct system.

Ecoliteracy & Systems Thinking is our teacher training program that helps classroom teachers learn how to integrate ecological themes across multiple disciplines and apply ecological principles in classroom management.
