Ssenvuma memorial Care foundation

Ssenvuma memorial Care foundation is a community based organizations working with children who are orphaned, HIV positive living children and those living with disability.

It is located in lwengo district -uganda along masaka -mbarara highway.

It's registration number CBO/2020/0005.

It's mission is to provide holistic ovc services in the program area of operation in order to foaster a social and economic development.

A vision of:A program area Free of ovcs and a society responsible for the welfare of those affected and infected.

A goal:an empowered local congregation and community in their HIV and human transformation.

Motto: transformation of lives.

Objectives:

To improve the health conditions of Young people through awareness compaigns against HIV AIDS and proper family nutrition.

To provide academic freedom of Young people through provision of adquate physical and emotional support to both girls and boys.

To identify and mitgate all forms of physical, sexual and psychological violence and other forms of abuse subjected to young people.

Preamble

Masaka regional covering kalungu, lwengo,rakai district among others has a big number of vulnerable persons and communities such as youth, women, prisoners, elderly and orphans and vulnerable children (ovcs).The vulnerable communities in smcf targeted areas live in extremely poor and under -developed conditions.Their livelihoods are broadly based on subsistence farming with limited opportunity to earn wages. The predominant livelihoods system are ; agriculture -based, fishing and simple local trading in semi -urban spots.

The number of orphans and vulnerable children (ovcs) totals to 123,696 which constitutes 27.6percet. children population in the region.Orphans constitutes upto69.4percet.of ovcs(85,905).

Contegorise include:child headed house holds and drop out of schools in many cases subjected to different human rights abuse.

Similarly,the vicious circle of events have been taking place in most families resulting in elderly,child headed or single headed families living with HIV AIDS person with several (4-10) orphans in one house hold. Many children who are orphaned are forced to live on the under -desirable and exploitative conditions of labour and sexual abuse among their child threatening conditions.many live in child headed house hold where they have to feed for themselves and support their young siblings.Some of these children are infected with HIV either through mother to child transmission or through defilement.(child care and masaka district report 2006).

Vulnerability of people especially children in lwengo district is shaped by a number of factors which includes; HIV AIDS, domestic violence, increasing poverty levels , increasing population,food shortage and prescence of fishing landing sites with high prevalence of child rights violation.

Upcoming towns/trading centers and the presence of major highway where trucks and taxis make stopovers have also largely contributed to increasing HIV AIDS,in wanted pregnancies and as a result child neglect.

All the above factors are due to law enforcement of laws and in adquate knowledge among the leaders and community about human and/or children rights,laws, policies and guidelines.

The existing local organizations have inadequate capacity to meet the over whelming numbers of vulnerable persons in the targeted areas all seeking for essential services.

Smcf thus envisaged that urgent need to fill the gap.
