Our vision, our values

Northern Plains organizes Montana citizens to safeguard water quality and other natural resources, defend family-scale farms and ranches, and protect the quality of life we enjoy here in Montana. Together, we can keep Montana a good place to live and work for future generations. We share these beliefs:

We believe in family-based farming and ranching

Our deep agricultural roots help us fill a unique niche as an environmental group, and help us reach an audience that’s inaccessible to many environmental organizations. Our members understand that healthy, family-scale farms and ranches are better for our environment, our economy, and our rural communities.

We believe in always looking to the next generation

Healthy natural resources and a clean environment mean everything to Montana’s future. The land and water and air are not ours to despoil, but ours to steward for future generations.

We believe that people can still make a difference in this country

It’s our right to have a say in decisions that affect our lives. It’s also our responsibility. We build strong citizen leaders whose diversity, belief in democratic principles, and efforts to find common ground make Northern Plains strong, credible, and durable.
