  • About Us

The purpose of the Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project (CBLCP) is to prevent the extinction of the Golden-headed or Cat Ba langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus poliocephalus), and to contribute to the conservation of the overall biodiversity of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Cat Ba Archipelago. The species is endemic to Cat Ba Island in Northern Vietnam, and listed by IUCN as critically endangered and one of the world's 25 most endangered primate species.

The project was established by Münster Zoo in cooperation with the Zoological Society for the Conservation of Species and Populations (ZGAP) in 2000. After a rapid and serious decline before the project started, the population of the species has now stabilized, albeit still is at critically low level. The CBLCP continues to develop its programs within the island community as the only conservation organization currently working on Cat Ba.
