The Neighborhood Academy is the only college-preparatory high school in Pittsburgh, PA that intentionally serves low-income, inner-city students. As an independent, faith-based school for low-income youth, the Academy's mission is to break the cycle of poverty by preparing the city's poorest young people for higher education. Our unique approach includes an extended school day (8am to 7:30pm), very small classes, counseling services, close and ongoing communication with families and a rigorous academic curriculum focusing on remedial reading, writing, and math. We also provide transportation, three meals a day, and assistance with emergency needs like medical care and clothing. The breadth of our services to students is based on the belief that low-income students face special challenges and need much more than "school" to learn.
