  • About Us

Project Liberty’s mission is to catalyze the building of a healthier technology ecosystem. To do so, we are building an alliance of ethical tech companies, policy organizations, civil society, universities, and impact organizations, who — together — will usher in a new tech future. Our goal is to institute system-level change that spans technology, policy, and society:

    • Technology. Through a fellowship program for breakthrough thinkers and social entrepreneurs, we will seed bold ideas for systems change. Through new tech labs, we will support the development of interoperable ethical protocols. To date, we have built a ground-breaking, open-source protocol for social networking (DSNP) that will serve as a foundational layer for the next generation of the web — one where people, not platforms, control data, and its economic benefits. Together, we will scale this new ecosystem and drive mass adoption.
    • Policy & Governance. Through our governance research institute and partnerships with major universities, we will ensure the stewards of democracy have the tools, insights, and recommendations they need to shape a positive future with responsible technology. Through policy briefings, governance tools, academic findings, white papers, and convenings, we will integrate safeguards and standards that reflect ethical values into the technology development process and keep pace with innovation.
    • Society. Powered by campaigns that touch people’s hearts and minds and public opinion research to reflect the pulse of society, we will inspire citizens to stand up and reject the systemic failings of today’s internet. Our first campaign will focus on social media and the mental health of young people, followed by tech and elections in 2024. We will focus not only on the problems associated with today’s centralized internet but also on the emerging solutions that will power a healthier tech ecosystem.

The result? A world where the technology ecosystem enhances democracy, not compromises it. A world where technology improves society's well-being, not tears us apart. A world where open, not closed, platforms make it possible for all of us, not just the few — to benefit directly from online creativity and connection.
