About Us
Next Step Learning Center believes in the human spirit and in each person's ability to learn and change. Our mission is to offer intensive, personalized tutoring and other programs in basic literacy, GED preparation, and transition to college for disadvantaged Oakland youth and adults, with the aim of breaking the cycle of illiteracy and unemployment that has existed in many families for generations. We define basic literacy as the tools of reading, writing, and computation needed for urban life in the 21st century. We support each person by providing a caring environment, bridges to the business, civic, and educational community, and a strong support and follow-up system.
