    Position Overview

    The Full Charge Bookkeeper is responsible for timely and accurate recording and reporting of financial activities for the organization – full cycle accounting. Responsibilities include Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, general reconciliations and accounting transactions, and ensuring organization complies with accounting standards (timely state and federal filings). This position requires strong attention to detail and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and it is the owner and expert on the PNA accounting system (QuickBooksOnline “QBO”) and other accounting software (Insperity: payroll & Ramp: AP). This role interacts with staff in all departments, aiding and training with regards to accounting policies and procedures. The Bookkeeper supports the annual audit process with preparation of schedules and other materials. This position is primarily in person, but provides the opportunity to work remotely occasionally as decided upon hire with the Business Operations Director. Additionally, this role may have volunteers providing task specific support.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Manage organizational accounting activities, accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries, fixed asset records, and monthly and annual close processes.
    • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual government filings and payroll tax returns, and licenses as needed.
    • Support the annual audit process with preparation of schedules and other materials.
    • Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and analysis of general ledger balances as needed.
    • Assist in training regarding accounting policies and procedures.
    • Comfortable collaborating with other departments to gather information and resolve issues.
    • Participate in special projects as needed.
    • Oversee volunteer team supporting bookkeeping duties.

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS, preferably in accounting or business, but related coursework and experience accepted
    • 2 years of relevant nonprofit accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP
    • Proficiency with accounting software required (QuickBooksOnline preferred), and intermediate Excel skills (including ability to use pivot tables and VLOOKUP)
    • Proven self-starter with high standards for accuracy and attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently and manage competing demands while meeting deadlines
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work well with others
    • Desire to ask questions, exercising discretion and independent judgment, with strong problem-solving skills to continually improve processes
    • Ability to work in an open and active office environment
    • Team-orientation and appreciation for community-building mission of the PNA
    • Position requires occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and ability to climb stairs
    • Ability to pass national criminal background check

    Compensation

    This is a 30-40 hour per week position, working Monday through Friday and the starting pay is $23.00 - $32.00 per hour DOE.
