    Description

    Interim Director of Development

    A full-time five-month position

    February 1–June 30, 2025

Atrium School is a progressive, inclusive PreK – Grade 8 independent school in the vibrant East End of Watertown, MA. Our program encourages deep academic curiosity, creativity, and exploration to foster each child's intellectual and personal growth. Our students are diverse and original thinkers, who develop confidence in themselves and respect for others within a joyful, energized community of nurturing and challenging teachers, engaged parents, and enriching community partnerships. For information about Atrium, please visit www.atrium.org. To apply for this role, please send a resume and letter of interest to mcarter@atrium.org.

While the Director of Development is on parental leave, Atrium seeks an interim leader for our fundraising, alum outreach, and community building work. Responsibilities include:

    • Leading and completing the annual Atrium Fund.
    • Planning and managing key events and working with the Family Association.
    • Communicating the recent successful closure of Atrium’s Comprehensive Campaign, and maintaining relationships with an array of donors, including endowment-building cultivation.
    • Overseeing and managing precise and complete database records.
    • Leading alum relations.
    • Contributing collaboratively to strategic vision, communications, and external messaging alongside fellow members of Atrium’s leadership team.

Atrium seeks an experienced development and advancement professional with experience in and/or knowledge of independent schools and nonprofits. The successful candidate cherishes a just and equitable approach to progressive education and will enjoy interacting with students, families, teachers, and community members in a warm, joyful school. He/she/they will work alongside Board members to ensure the long-term financial health of the school through philanthropy. Further, the ideal candidate is:

    • A proven project manager who excels at both minding the important nitty-gritty details of a project and connecting the details to their broader purpose.
    • Skilled at event planning, playing a key role in big and small details from beginning to end.
    • Relishes the effective use of technology to advance fundraising work.
    • A strong communicator, both in writing and speaking.
    • A flexible, adaptable, and positive individual who works well within a close-knit team.

This is an exciting opportunity to build depth in philanthropy and community with alums at a young school (founded 1982). Atrium is located on the Cambridge line, in Watertown’s rapidly growing arts, culture, and technology-rich East End. At Atrium, diverse experiences, backgrounds, personalities, thinking, and identities help us be better.
