    Job Summary

    LCF and Progreso are seeking an inclusive, community-driven Communications Manager to strengthen and improve the overall branding and messaging of our organizations across our 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 work. The position will lead and implement our communications strategy as a key member of the Leadership Team, working closely with the Policy Director and Development Manager, and reporting directly to the Executive Director.

    The role is based in Washington State, with offices in Seattle and Yakima. We also work with partner organizations across the state, with the need for occasional travel to areas including in Spokane, Tri-Cities, Olympia, and Pierce County (approx. 4-6 times per year). The position is hybrid with work in the office, in the field, and online.

    Primary Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

    As the Communications Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the organization’s communication strategy and brand identity, with a focus on content creation, digital platforms, campaign and programmatic materials (including flyers, one-pagers, factsheets, etc.), and occasional media relations. The ideal candidate has experience crafting clear, consistent, engaging, and community-focused content across a number of platforms, and knows how to support a team in maintaining consistent messaging.

    Communications Strategy & Brand Management

    • Develop and implement a communications plan to increase the visibility of LCF/Progreso programs, community resources, policy and electoral goals, and more.
    • Develop and implement LCF/Progreso’s regular communications schedule.
    • Develop, mentor, coach, and support staff on maintaining brand integrity across platforms via best practices, training, and standards of quality for content creation (i.e., style guides, templates, and toolkits) that aligns with LCF/Progreso’s mission and goals.

    Content Creation & Platform Management

    • Develop, write, edit, and frequently post content (i.e., events, blogs, ads, stories, etc) for various platforms including website, social media, newsletter, and occasional events.
    • Support staff in daily content creation and posting to social media accounts as managing editor.
    • Monitor and engage LCF/Progreso’s digital media accounts (e.g. Nationbuilder, social media, etc) and respective audiences for questions and comments, and engage with content and accounts relevant to LCF/Progreso’s mission and values.
    • Managing ensure regular and timely publication of monthly email newsletter
    • Develop and implement data hygiene protocols to optimize audience engagement.

    Develop Campaign and Programmatic Materials

    • Work with the staff to produce annual reports, fact sheets, formal comments, reports, and other materials for organizing, lobbying, advocacy, donor stewardship, or other purposes.

    Press, Marketing, and External Representation

    • Establish and manage relationships with traditional, ethnic, and new media contacts, including journalists, editors, bloggers, and influencers.
    • Draft, edit, and pitch stories and content to the media to support LCF/Progreso campaigns such as press releases, press kits, blogs, reports, and other content.
    • Represent and maintain relationships on behalf of LCF/Progreso with partner and stakeholder organizations, and in coalition (including with key partners at the Power Building Table, policy coalitions, and other key areas).

    Qualifications

    • Native speaker with fluency and professional competence in Spanish (oral and written).
    • At least two years of professional experience in communications, ideally in a nonprofit, campaign, or advocacy-based setting.
    • Strong digital and social media expertise with an understanding of best practices for digital content, and utilizing analytics tools to track performance.
    • Strong oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to write and edit content across different platforms and audiences and distill complex topics into easily digestible formats, messaging, and media.
    • Exhibits strong interpersonal communication skills to shepherd shared projects through to completion.
    • Project Management Skills. Ability to concurrently manage and coordinate multiple projects, consistently meet deadlines, balance competing demands and make decisions about priorities.
    • Collaborating across teams. Possesses an aptitude for working in a team-oriented setting and ability to effectively communicate with volunteers, staff, and the public.
    • Experience with media and public relations and an ability to communicate well with reporters and editors.
    • Commitment to racial justice, advocacy, and power building work.

    Preferred Skills

    • Technical proficiency in design software such as Canva, Photoshop, or InDesign.
    • Experience creating shareable graphics or designing materials.
    • Experience with content management and email marketing systems such as Nationbuilder, WordPress, Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, or other similar platforms.
    • Experience managing CRM platforms such as Nationbuilder, Salesforce, Little Green Light, NGP VAN, EveryAction, or other similar platforms.
    • Proficiency with collaborative work software such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite.
