    PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

    North Atlantic Books (NAB) is a leading independent nonprofit publisher in Berkeley, CA. We are seeking a Production Coordinator to join our team and assist in producing books in NAB’s publishing categories, including health and wellness, social justice, trauma and somatics, and herbalism.     OVERVIEW

    The Production Coordinator assists with all aspects of book production, including new titles, reprints, ebooks, file management, creating digital assets, and archiving. The position is 40 hours a week and reports to the Associate Director of Production.

    NAB has a small office in Berkeley, but staff is remote; staff visit the office when needed. This position is remote with required occasional office visits (~2x/month). This position requires the applicant to have stable, high speed internet.

    SALARY

    Salary is $57,331. We have an excellent benefits package: full health, vision, and dental plan; 401k; paid sabbatical; and flexible spending plan. In addition to PTO, we offer all employees one paid volunteer day, five grief/bereavement days to grieve any impactful event, and twenty-four paid holidays per year.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Reprints

    • Track, prepare, and order backlist reprint jobs; approve proofs and ensure timely delivery of books to the warehouse.
    • Implement cover and interior file adjustments and corrections. Preflight and create press-ready files.
    • Maintain thorough digital record-keeping.
    • Archive final press files.
    • Maintain reprint correction archive.
    • Update epub files with reprint corrections.

    Frontlist support

    • Review epubs for quality and accuracy.
    • ARC cover layouts and interior prep for print/digital distribution.
    • Assist in reviewing art for new titles. Assist with image adjustment, cropping, and cleanup.
    • Create simple illustrations and infographics.

    Art/Design

    • Assemble/create supplemental audiobook PDFs.
    • Create and load digital assets to various platforms.
    • Design miscellaneous collateral for the Rights department.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent; 3+ years in an art, design, or editorial environment.
    • Knowledge of book specifications, materials, and manufacturing processes.
    • Strong skills in Adobe CC InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator. Familiarity with Quark is a plus.
    • Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently, and meet deadlines.
    • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Familiarity with Chicago Manual and editorial standards is a plus.
    • Google Suite, MS Office Suite.
    • Must be local to the Bay Area and able to travel to the Berkeley office as needed.
