    Description

    If you have a passion for social justice and want to fight for those most in need of legal assistance, we want you to join our team! We need attorneys to meet the ever-growing need for free and low-cost legal services for people living with HIV/AIDS around the Bay Area. The work includes a wide array of civil legal issues, with primary focus on housing rights (including eviction defense) and public benefits, among many others. Depending on your experience, the starting salary is $90,000-$100,000 (fulltime). We offer generous benefits including comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance. People of color, women, and those with disabilities, including HIV, are encouraged to apply.

    Responsibilities: Provide direct advocacy and representation for people living with HIV/AIDS in civil legal matters, primarily pertaining to housing rights and public benefits.

    • Conduct client intake interviews and provide comprehensive legal advice and consultations.
    • Assist clients with cases before administrative agencies, such as the San Francisco Rent Board and the Social Security Administration.
    • Represent clients facing Unlawful Detainer (eviction) lawsuits.
    • Refer clients to appropriate legal services providers and volunteer Panel Attorneys.
    • Conduct outreach and educational presentations for clients and community members affected by HIV/AIDS.
    • Provide training to local service providers and maintain partnerships with agencies that serve people with HIV/AIDS.
    • Train and supervise law clerks and perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
    • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
    • Experience working with vulnerable populations including people with mental health disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS, people of color, low-income individuals or families, people with substance use disorders, people with a history of homelessness or incarceration, and people in the LGBTQIA+ community.
    • Commitment to public service and social justice; positive attitude; cooperative approach to lawyering.
    • Strong legal research and writing skills.
    • Robust organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
    • Bilingual or proficient Spanish strongly preferred.
