    Summary:

    The Philadelphia Worker Organizer will be a part of One PA's organizing department and will work with a team of organizers in Southeastern PA. The ideal candidate will have experience in a working class, base-building organization carrying out membership recruitment. They will have an understanding of systemic inequities, a commitment to social justice, and relevant lived experience. They will have a collaborative spirit and work with the other departments at One PA. Because no single candidate will meet all of the qualifications, we are willing to train those who show promise and encourage you to apply.

    Reports To: Organizing Director

    Responsibilities:

    • Recruit workers to participate in and join One PA
    • Perform outreach through flyering, outdoor canvassing, phone calls, text messages, follow up with hot leads and social media
    • Develop the leadership skills of worker leaders
    • Builds a committee of workers
    • Support the development of and facilitation of building meetings/assemblies and direct actions
    • Track leadership in digital databases
    • Work collaboratively with One PA's political, operations, civic engagement, development, and communications departments

    Qualifications

    • Experience:
      • 1+ years of base-building experience in community, faith-based, student or labor organizations as paid staff or core volunteer
      • A track record of and dedication to “giving back to your community”
    • Experience building relationships and moving people to action
    • Strong written and oral communications skills
    • Proven ability to work independently and proactively
    • Meeting facilitation skills
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects and deadlines
    • High degree of emotional awareness and listening skills
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and comfort with technology for use of EveryAction, digital database for tracking membership and events

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

    Access to and operating a car is required. Willingness to travel and the ability to competently navigate the city is required. Occasional opportunities to travel across the state or country for training or with members can be reasonably expected. One Pennsylvania provides mileage reimbursement at the Federal rate, per diem and lodging when working away from home. Ability to work hours exceeding stated office hours to get the job done; ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Physical requirements include walking outdoors year round for multiple hours at a time, climbing stairs, and the ability to lift 25 pounds. The position will be based in Philadelphia and will be a hybrid work environment.

    Salary:

    Compensation for this position is between $48,000 and $65,000, commensurate with experience.

    Location:

    This position is hybrid, and reports out of Philadelphia.
