    Organizational Summary:

    Playwrights Horizons is a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary U.S. playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

    Reports to:

    Director of Finance

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a Business Manager to support the Director of Finance and the team in administering Playwrights Horizons’ daily accounting activities while supporting the daily needs and overall financial operations of the organization. This role is essential to supporting the success of the organization’s financial health. This is a full-time exempt position, and this position works in person at the 42nd Street Theater.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Supervise daily financial operations including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash disbursement, bank/corporate credit card/petty cash reconciliations, and merchant account reconciliations. Record and reconcile earned and contributed revenue.
    • Lead and manage the full-cycle accounts payable process, including but not limited to reviewing and verifying vendor invoices, ensuring proper approvals form departments, timely processing of payments, and posting accounts payable entries in the accounting systems.
    • Perform post-payroll functions including payroll journal entries and quarterly 941 reconciliation. Support insurance audits such as workers comp and disability insurance audits.
    • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities. Develop and maintain a cross-department reconciliation process to ensure proper allocation of income and expenses.
    • Conduct regular data entry review to ensure accuracy of financial records in the accounting system and record adjusting entries whenever necessary.
    • Assist in the preparation of the annual audit and annual budgeting process.
    • Manage vendor relations, addressing inquiries, and resolving payment discrepancies promptly.
    • Maintain and update the accounting system as new features become available.
    • Train and supervise Accounting Associate in daily financial operations.
    • Work alongside the Director of Finance to develop and implement institution-wide policies and procedures to streamline and improve accounting functions.

    Desired Experiences and Qualifications:

    • Experiences with Financial Edge and Tessitura are a plus though not required.
    • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations.
    • Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Great interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
    • Comfortable with a hybrid work environment, able to work at least 3 days per week in midtown Manhattan office.

    Compensation:

    Playwrights Horizons offers a comprehensive benefits package including 10 days (two weeks) of vacation, four personal days, and 10 sick days. Playwrights Horizons partially subsidizes health and dental insurance and provides vision insurance at no charge to employees.     Salary: $65,000-$75,000
