    The New York Philharmonic connects with millions of music lovers each season through live concerts in New York and around the world, as well as broadcasts, recordings, and education programs. Gustavo Dudamel will become the Philharmonic’s Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music and Artistic Director in the 2026–27 season.

    The New York Philharmonic seeks a Senior Staff Accountant. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for a broad range of complex activities and is a key member of the Finance team, supporting the NY Phil’s financial reporting, accounting, and accounts receivable processes. This role oversees revenue and accounts receivable and coordinates with various departments to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue, cash receipts, and accounts receivable.

    Responsibilities:

    • Record daily activity from ticketing and contributions subledger (Tessitura), and assist as necessary with GL setup for said subledger.
    • Manage and ensure accurate monthly revenue recognition for concert sales, special events and education activities.
    • Responsible for various, complex reconciliations and for recording or coordinating the relevant journal entries to maintain accurate balances, including (but not limited to) bank accounts, deferred revenue, restricted revenue, and merchant receivables.
    • Oversee chargeback responses with merchants and internal departments.
    • Prepare invoicing and/or journal entries for accounts receivable and follow up with various requesting departments on aged receivables.
    • Coordinate with various departments to ensure accurate and timely recording of cash receipts (e.g. wires, ACH payments, and stock gifts)
    • File sales tax returns for merchandise revenue and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Assist with timely preparation of supporting schedules for the annual financial audit, and 990 tax return as needed.
    • Assist with ad-hoc projects and financial analysis.
    • A commitment to contributing to an inclusive working environment is required.
    • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    This position is best suited for a detail-oriented and highly organized team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional NY Phil staff.Essential skills include:

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Self-starter, work autonomously, use independent judgement, and maintain a high level of professionalism
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA a plus
    • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, and a thorough knowledge of GAAP.
    • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, sumif, if, conditional formatting, complex nested formulas).
    • Experience with financial systems, especially Sage Intacct, and/or Tessitura a plus.
