Immigrant Social Services, Inc. (ISS) seeks a dynamic and experienced part-time Afterschool Programs Site Supervisor. The Site Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the afterschool program site including coaching and working with the Group Leader(s)/Group Assistant (s) and volunteers/interns to create a safe, caring and enriching environment for all children at all times. The Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that policies and licensing standards are met in regards to day-to day operations including maintaining up to date records, ensuring supervision policies are implemented, guiding the behavior of children, planning and delivering the weekly curriculum and managing staff.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise daily onsite program operations and implementation of quality learning experiences such as:
- Maintain complete and thorough attendance of all students and staff each day. Check the school absentee list, site voicemail, and call parents if child(ren) are absent, but scheduled. Submit attendance rosters, schedule changes, licensing paperwork, payroll and other reports as requested.
- Ensure the safety of all children enrolled in the program by following the supervision standards in NYS OCFS SACC, DOHMH, DOE, and other regulatory agencies,
- Maintain constant head counts when transitioning between different areas and activities.
- Ensure that only the authorized parent/guardian or emergency contact signs a child in/out of the program and include recording time. Return rosters to office administration weekly, signed and dated.
- Follow protocols for dealing with First-Aid and emergency situations. Complete necessary paperwork such as incident reports, medical log, etc.
- Use positive group management techniques. Anticipate and deal with behavior problems proactively.
- Coach, guide and manage the day-to-day duties of group leaders/assistants/volunteers/interns. Provide overall support and supervision for site staff, coordinate and facilitate check-ins, observations, and evaluations.
- Oversee and assigning responsibilities each day including leading activities, helping with snack, homework support, restroom supervision, and clean up as required.
- Ensure all staff function as positive role models and set a positive example through their behavior.
- Address any staff performance issues that affect the program with guidance from the Site Director.
- Provide specific input/feedback for group leaders/assistants for performance reviews.
- Plan and implement a weekly curriculum incorporating the values of ISS.
- Assist Site Director with promoting ISS program to families to reach enrollment targets.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary program environment by ensuring supplies, equipment and tables are cleaned before and after snack or activities. Ensure children wash their hands before snack. Report any maintenance issues to the school custodians and the Site Director.
- Lead monthly fire safety drill and log results to meet licensing requirements.
- Complete all required trainings for compliance with DOHMH, OCFS, and OASAS. Attend all staff meetings as required.
- Assist with planning and implementation of special events.
- Maintain certifications as required. Must complete background check clearance and provide proof of a Mantoux test within two weeks of hire.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
Qualification and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in education or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience with elementary or middle school-age children in an afterschool program leading activities in a group setting.
- At least two years of supervisory experience.
- Experience adhering to licensing requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels including staff, parents/families, and school staff.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of ISS.
- A self-starter with strong organizational, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills, capable of prioritizing and performing multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge and sensitivity to the diverse perspectives inherent in working with Asian Americans/immigrants, communities of color, and low-income families.
- Working knowledge of the DOE/public school system, out-of-school time programs and networks, nonprofit organizations, curriculum design and implementation, program evaluation and assessment, Asian American studies, and community development is helpful.
Location:
Our afterschool programs operate at public school sites in the Lower East Side/Chinatown neighborhood.
Compensation:
$20-$24 per hour, depending on education and experience.
This is a part-time position for the 2024-25 school year that follows the NYC DOE academic calendar. Must be available during afterschool hours, Monday–Friday, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm.
