    Organization Overview:

    7000 Languages is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower communities around the world to teach, learn, and sustain their endangered languages. Founded in 2016, 7000 Languages has successfully published online language learning courses for nearly 50 endangered languages, leveraging technology donations to strengthen community-based language revitalization efforts.

    Position Overview:

    The Executive Director of 7000 Languages provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and overall management for the organization, ensuring the mission to support Indigenous and minoritized communities in revitalizing their languages through technology is fulfilled. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and leads a fully remote, international team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership and Vision

      • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to guide the organization’s growth and sustainability.
      • Identify and pursue innovative opportunities to enhance the organization’s impact on language revitalization efforts globally.

    Fundraising and Resource Development

      • Lead the creation and execution of fundraising strategies to secure diverse funding streams, including grants, sub-grants, and individual donors.
      • Cultivate relationships with new and existing donors, foundations, and other partners.
      • Oversee donor stewardship and implement fundraising events such as the annual fellowship showcase and online giving campaigns.

    Program and Partnership Management

      • Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of language revitalization programs, ensuring alignment with community-led goals.
      • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with Indigenous communities, nonprofits, academic institutions, and technology companies.

    Financial and Operational Oversight

      • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its successful long-term operations
      • Ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization through sound fiscal management.
      • Develop and oversee the annual budget, including financial reporting and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
      • Oversee operational policies and procedures for effective remote team management.

    Board Governance and Engagement

      • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to drive governance best practices.
      • Facilitate effective communication between the board and staff, ensuring the board has timely and comprehensive information for decision-making.
      • Engage and develop the board to enhance its fundraising capacity and strategic contribution.

    Communications and Public Relations

      • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing its mission and work to diverse audiences.
      • Lead external communications, including social media, newsletters, and press engagements, to amplify the organization’s visibility and influence.
      • Develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote courses and community resources.

    Technology and Innovation

      • Ensure effective use of technology to develop innovative language-learning solutions.
      • Stay informed of advancements in educational technology and online learning to integrate best practices into course offerings.

    Advocacy and Impact

      • Advocate for language preservation and digital equity for minoritized communities.
      • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to report on the organization’s impact.

    Skills and Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, nonprofit management, education, or related field preferred.
      • Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit management or a related field.
      • Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor cultivation.
      • Experience with program management, particularly in community-centered initiatives.
      • Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
      • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders.
      • Demonstrated commitment to cultural preservation, language revitalization, or similar missions.
      • Experience working with Indigenous communities and navigating sensitive cultural contexts.
      • Proficiency in leveraging technology to support organizational goals.
      • Ability to lead in a fully remote environment with a global team.
      • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally

    Pay and Benefits:

    This full-time, exempt position offers a salary of $90,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on skills and experience. 7000 Languages additionally offers:
