    Description

    The Director of Leadership Development is responsible for overseeing both the leadership development programs of CLUE and the staff development and training within CLUE. The leadership development programs include the Young Religious Leaders Fellowship (YRLF), the Faith-Rooted Organizing Cohort (FRO), and other internships through partnerships with academic institutions. Within CLUE, the Director of Leadership Development will be responsible for developing, in consultation with the Executive

    Director and senior organizers, ongoing training for the CLUE organizing staff, recommend professional development opportunities for staff, and otherwise take responsibility for the growth and learning of CLUE staff.

    Primary Functions

    The Director of Leadership Development reports to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the Leadership Team.

    The day-to-day functions of the program director include:

    • Create and supervise CLUE’s leadership development programs, including the Young Religious Leaders Fellowship, Faith-Rooted Organizing Cohort, and other internship partnerships with colleges and universities;
    • Work with the Executive Director and the Development Director to secure relationships and funding for these programs;
    • Devise program budgets for these programs and ensure the budget is adhered to throughout the fiscal year, in consultation with the Executive Director;
    • Provide information and data for those charged to write grant proposals and reports for CLUE’s leadership development work;
    • Monitor the effectiveness of CLUE’s leadership development programs and plan adjustments;
    • Oversee the expansion of CLUE’s leadership development programs, including training additional mentors, developing relationships with organizations in neighboring geographic areas, and recruiting a diverse applicant pool;
    • In consultation with the Executive Director, develop and implement an onboarding training program for new organizers hired by CLUE;
    • In collaboration with CLUE’s senior organizers, ensure CLUE’s organizing staff are developing in their organizing and leadership capacity;
    • Work cooperatively and creatively with other members of the CLUE team on other projects. (actions, campaigns, committees, events, etc.), as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

    Skills and Qualities

    A program director must demonstrate a commitment to economic justice and the labor movement, and be willing to work non-traditional hours and weekends when necessary, including during religious holidays. They must be capable of establishing and maintaining deep and numerous relationships, and have a gift for strategic thinking and planning. They must be flexible and open-minded, a motivated self-starter, and able to work independently, while also supporting and coaching other team members.

    The position calls for excellent reporting skills, as well as strong analytical, written, and verbal communication and computer skills. The director should be familiar with various communities of faith, have strong skills in community organizing, outreach, and engagement, and be willing to assume additional responsibilities to support the organization in times of challenge.

    • While some remote work will be possible, due to the highly relational nature of this work, it is primarily envisioned as an in-person position. Applicants should be residents of either Los Angeles or Orange Counties.
    • Driving your own car is required.
