    Position Description: Stewardship Coordinator

    The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine

    The purpose of this role is to thoughtfully develop and intentionally manage donor relationships so that lifelong connections between the donor and the Cathedral can be made.

    The Cathedral’s Development team is responsible for fundraising for a wide range of programs at this historic Cathedral, including capital projects, a soup kitchen, summer camp, educational programs for children and adults, and music and arts programming.

    The Stewardship Coordinator creates and executes a calendar of reports, acknowledgements, events, and other creative touches to ensure our donors know the remarkable impact of their philanthropy on the programs they choose to support.     Primary Duties:

    Manage the acknowledgment process

    • Pull weekly gift lists to create donor acknowledgements
    • Collaborate on writing engaging acknowledgement letters for each donor segment
    • Ensure highly accurate and timely delivery of gift acknowledgements
    • Conduct monthly audits to ensure that all gifts have been correctly acknowledged and logged

    Design development materials, reports, communications

    • Develop compelling stewardship reports and videos in collaboration with program leaders
    • Spearhead development communications including:
      • weekly donor email
      • monthly board development briefs
      • annual impact reports
      • follow up emails after development events

    Develop and maintain meaningful donor connections

    • Ensure donors receive special touches such as flowers, birthday cards, and personalized notes
    • Attend or support events with a donor presence
    • Brainstorm occasional stewardship events (virtual or in person) for existing donors
    • Promptly send welcome packets to first-time donors
    • Identify, recruit, and maintain sustaining (recurring) donors

    Team collaboration

    • Code and enter gifts into Raiser’s Edge and NXT in collaboration with the Development Coordinator
    • Manage a stewardship pipeline for major donors in collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving
    • Log relationship notes in NXT and help build accurate donor information

    A typical day might include:

      • Drafting and mailing acknowledgement letters to donors
      • Updating NXT with newly acquired donor information
      • Responding to donor inquiries by email and phone
      • Drafting or updating an impact report to share with a major donor
      • Gathering materials for a grant proposal to raise money for the soup kitchen
      • Working with communications and the Dean on the weekly development email
      • Working with the finance department to ensure accurate record-keeping
      • Brainstorming with the Development team about potential stewardship events
      • Attending an all-staff meeting to discuss logistics for the procession of animals that takes place every year on St. Francis Day

    Qualifications:

      • College degree
      • Highly collaborative and service-oriented approach
      • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
      • Extensive knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database
      • Minimum of two years of fundraising or communications experience
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills

    Compensation:

    • $60,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience
